Calling all cars in the Daytona Beach area! I'm looking for anyone interested in helping me organize a Miata club in volusia county and the local area. I was president of scenic city Miatas in Chattanooga, TN but I've recently moved to ormond Beach and I'm ready to organize a new club here. I understand that there are several Miata clubs in the general area, but they are farther away than what I was looking for. If anyone is interested, please send me an email at: charlysems@gmail.com. when I get enough interest I will set a date and time for our first meeting. This will be a very relaxed club. No dues or fees are how I'd like to keep it.

I'm sure you realize there are several Miata clubs fairly close by

50 miles south -- http://www.spacecoastmiataclub.com/

50 miles southwest - http://www.centralfloridamiataclub.com/

I think having a Miata club close by and not having to drive an hour plus each way would be a club I would join. Now if we could only figure a way to put a curve or two in Volusia County we would be good to go. Thank god for Zoomin, MATG and MIB or we would never know if those expensive tires we bought we worth the money.

Let me know when you get the club going, would love to visit being I'm in the area several times a year.

These other clubs exist but unless you seek them out you would never know they exist . PR doesn't seem to be a strong point with our Florida clubs or maybe now the clubs are so old they are a tight circle of friends and don't want to expand there numbers and let in the riff-raff

That's too bad -- the FCMC welcomed me with open arms:D

They seem to be getting more active due to one member "osprey2000" posting stuff up. Which is a good thing.
Not that I hold anything agains any of the clubs but why not post events and then let everyone know its contingent on joining the club?

I have been in touch with both 1086 and RonPC. There is enough interest to start something! Looking forward to it an I know there must be others---there are lots of Miatas here. The weather is right even if the roads aren't as twisty as we would like. They aren't all as boring as lots of folks make them out to be either!

Have you visited any of their meetings to answer this question?

f86sabjf

4th April 2013, 10:50

Honestly no but I have talked to a few members on the personal level and I won't throw them under the bus here.

If they were interested you would figure they might post there events here. This is only the largest miata forum around.
You can't grow a club or keep it active without telling people about what's going on and getting them excited about it.

Just got my 1st Miata a few days ago. It's a 1995. I am in the Daytona Area. o/

We should get some local meets going and stuff. During bike week at the 'steak n shake' Thursday night meet saw a few Miatas. Not sure how often all the cars get together there but it had a pretty large crowd.

btw there is no Facebook group for Daytona/Central FL Miatas that I could find if you know of one let me know :) Im gonna make a Facebook group for Daytona area owners join up if you like -> https://www.facebook.com/groups/1241779055963524/

Thanks

I'm in the Ocala area....actually in the Ocala National Forest where there are lots of nice twisty roads. I plan on Buying a 2013 GT PRHT a bit later in the year, so I would be interested in something in the Daytona area. I tried to check out a gathering of Central Florida Miata Club in Juniper Springs, but they must have seen a cloud in the sky and canceled.

The Daytona Area Miatas Facebook page is up! Check it out if you are in the area and you are interested in joining us. I'm looking for somewhere to have the meetings. If anyone knows of a locally owned restaurant that is centrally located and has plenty of parking please post it on the Facebook page for us.

Any news on a date and location for your first meeting ?

kabel

1st May 2013, 11:51

I discovered a club meet organizer needs to be minimally democratic. As the organizer set a Date, Time, & Place and those that can attend will and go from there.

When I sort of took on administering the Orlando Roadsters group back in 07-08 I simply picked a date, time & place I could attend a meet. We start a new forum thread every month here on miata.net and several other mazda/miata related forums and our facebook page to announce the meet date for that month.

For quite a while we were lucky to get 3-5 people to show up. Then slowly we saw greater participation. This past year has been a lot of fun, we have had any where from 12-24 roadsters show up to our monthly meet. That is huge to me :D We always meet on a Monday (tradition), we always meet at the same time, 6:30p, and we meet at the same location. The only variable is what monday we meet. I am proud to say we have had a meet every single month for at least the last 5 years in a row.

Concentrate on organizing the meet first, the rest will follow. Heck it took me 4 years to come up with a logo and 5 years to actually get a sticker made up LOL.

I know what you mean. My club in Tennessee was the worst about it. I'd give them a choice between two places and they couldn't figure that out. Then they would start to suggest other places. Finally I just had to set it up and say this is where its going to be.

I'm new to the area so I was looking for suggestions. My girlfriend made a suggestion and I tend to give her suggestions a little more weight since she sleeps in my bed. Lol. I'll check it out in the next day or two and get something set up.

If still looking for meeting suggestions, how about Daytona Ale house on ISB or Hidden Treasure on Ridgewood in South Daytona. Both Offer both indoor and outdoor dining and decent food for not a lot of money.

Depending on how many cars we are going to have, the manager at Lime is willing to close a section of the parking lot for us so please visit us on Facebook and let us know you are coming.

In case anyone missed it, the first meeting for Daytona Area Miatas is this Tuesday, May 14 at 7pm. We are meeting at 7pm at Lime Fresh Mexican Grill on the corner of international speedway and Bill France just past the Daytona Beach sign.

And new owner just popped up today in Palm Coast. Hopefully he'll check in here. He h asked some questions in the NC section about a new to him Miata that had been sitting for a year or two.

Preparing to go pick up my car from Orlando (hopefully) this weekend! I'd love to see some get-togethers, etc.

Also, I'm pretty interested in autoX and track daying this thing so it would be fun to have a group to make some of those treks with.
