Das Angebot von IMDb TV ist übersichtlich und kann es nicht annähernd mit Streaming-Größen wie Netflix, Amazon Prime Video oder Disney+ aufnehmen. Dennoch darf man sich kaum beschweren, immerhin werden einem alle Inhalte kostenlos angeboten. Der einzige Nachteil sind Werbeunterbrechungen, mit denen Amazon den Dienst finanziert.
Die Website von IMDb TV, die sich als Unterkategorie auf der IMDb-Seite verbirgt, ist jedoch enttäuschend. Hier bekommt ihr nämlich nur ein Bruchteil der Filme und Serien zu sehen, die eigentlich Teil des Programms von IMDb TV sind. Das ist natürlich unglücklich, denn so entsteht der Eindruck, dass der Dienst nur eine Handvoll Titel zu bieten hat.

Anders sieht es in der IMDb TV-App aus, die in Deutschland jedoch nicht verfügbar ist und sich auch nur umständlich durch Umwege beschaffen lässt. Einfacher ist hier der Weg über das US-Angebot von Amazon Prime Video. Hier findet man, ein wenig versteckt, eine IMDb TV-Kategorie, in der alle Filme und Serien zu finden sind. Diese lassen sich auch hier kostenlos mit Werbepausen streamen, ein Prime-Abo ist nicht nötig.
Besonders nennenswerte Eigenproduktionen hat IMDb TV noch nicht zu bieten, die Serie "Alex Rider" zum Beispiel ist in Deutschland Teil von Amazon Prime Video. Allerdings produziert IMDb TV ein Spin-off zu "Bosch" und auch "For Life" könnte nach der Absetzung hier eine neue Heimat finden.
Abgesehen davon ist das Programm in Ordnung. Neuheiten gibt es hier natürlich nicht, doch die Auswahl ist vielfältig, von Klassikern wie "Alien" bis zu Blockbustern wie "Star Trek" oder "Pain & Gain" gibt es hier sicherlich für jeden etwas. Im Serienbereich finden sich Highlights wie "Desperate Housewives", "Lost" oder "24", aber auch ältere Titel wie "Verliebt in eine Hexe" oder "Columbo".

IMDb TV ist und bleibt kostenlos. Der Dienst ist nicht als Konkurrenz zu größeren Anbietern gedacht, viel eher ist es eine abgespeckte Variante von Amazon Prime Video, die komplett über Werbeeinnahmen finanziert wird. Hier müsst ihr also nicht lange entscheiden, ob sich ein Abo lohnt, nur die Werbung könnte man als störend empfinden.

Als IMDb TV Anfang 2019 in den USA startete, kündigte Amazon an, den kostenlosen Streamingdienst noch im selben Jahr in anderen Ländern starten zu lassen. Daraus wurde jedoch nichts, bis heute gibt es IMDb TV nur in den USA. Das soll nicht so blieben, einen neuen Zeitraum für die internationale Expansion nennt Amazon aber nicht. So könnte es noch 2021 so weit sein, vielleicht verzögert sich der Start jedoch weiter.
