Thought I would share...interesting ad....if I was in the market I would look into it. How odd to label is it as "restored."

This car was purchased through ebay at 27k mile in near original condition in 2013, car was moved to CA and professionally restored or tuned with ONLY OEM or Mazda Genuine parts. Currently at 36k miles on.

The part about the price is slightly confusing (he says he bought it for $6500 and then spent a bunch of cash on "restoring" it, yet apparently just wants the original purchase price back? Oh, or whatever it fetches on eBay, I guess), but if you could get this for $6500 and it all checks out, that sounds like a scorching deal.

Interesting - Vin is missing a digit.

Wow I did notice VIN was missing a digit.
I hope this one is not a scam.

Don't read too much into the word "Restored". To most clueless non collector car people it could mean oil change and inflating tires to spec. The comment above about this being a scam, maybe try not "sharing" your thoughts so much. You have no basis of fact. Speculation is just babble.

I don't know much (about anything) but this looks like a very good deal.
The mariner blue with the hd in KS ,http://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.php?t=592448 was a good deal at $8k.
Someone even said that they left "something" on the table.

What do you think? can "someone" make money on this one if the car is what appears to be, and there are no stories...(the one in CA).

Something really wierd about this whole deal, either the seller is totally clueless about cars, or really anal, or was scammed by the "restorer", etc.
For instance, why in the world would you replace the following at that very low mileage:
alternator, exhaust, fuel pump, clutch, shocks, injectors, ball joints timimg belt/water pump (this plus the shocks only thing possibly needing replacement, and even this is questionable), etc, etc. Most of these items last up to and even over 100,000 miles, especially the clutch, ball joints, injectors, fuel pump, etc. Inquiring minds want to know.

I just cut and pasted this from your post and sent it to the seller on Ebay ;)

They probably follow this forum and realize their car has ZERO value with original shocks and a green radiator.

They were just baselining the car so it would be perfect when they put it up for sale.

Okay can one bit this car at 6500 and sell it for 8000 in The spring?

Bob_MX5

Okay can one bit this car at 6500 and sell it for 8000 in The spring?

Ummm, not to any one on this forum. ;)

That being said, IMO $7500-8000 is probably all the money there is in a smurf with low miles (40-50k), needs nothing maintenance, no stories, no rust, no history of paint/body work and paper to support the condition.. and no hard top. With OEM Smurf HT, then $8-9k.

So, what does this mean for a flipper? Maybe some money could be made but the market at that level is very small and it may take months not weeks to find that special buyer. Plus, that buyer would be equally happy with a 93LE, an SBY, a 95M, a BRG, a 92SE at similar price points so if every thing wasn't exactly right he/she would walk away without a second thought.

Someone like Mr Mustang could probably make money on it because he can reach out to past custmers that might be interested or that might know someone that would like to enter the miata family. For those that rely on CL for their buyers, or those in texas where miata prices are lower than other states, it would be really tough to buy at $6500 and sell at $8000.

Seller responded:

I just wanted to be changed for 25 year old car and had some noise came from the bottom. Where did you get 100000mile reference? it is mostly depending on driving behavior I believe.

Using that logic, the seller should have replaced the floor mats, sun visors, headlights, winshield washer motor, etc, as they are all 25 years old as well.

I guess we all know what they say about a fool and his money.....

Right, every time I hear "noise from the bottom" my first move is to spend a few thousand $$$ on clutch, engine components, and suspension bits. Again, :dunno:

Can one buy this car at $6500 and sell it for $8000 in the spring?

Sure, why not? The question is whether or not someone is willing to pay $8000. What he if bargains down to $7500? Or $7000. Or...

I've wondered about the title, taxes and tags... If your state demands taxes, say 10% sales tax, then you'd have to cough up $650 for that, and probably another $100 for license plate and tag, perhaps more in some states. Then you'd be at about $7250. Not much of a margin...

Nothing stopping you from buying it for $6500 and advertising it for $1,000,000. Just don't expect any inquires, much less buyers.
